Racing Bikes

Racing bikes are designed to be lightweight and fast. Unlike a typical road bike, these bikes are made from high-tech materials that often make them quite expensive. This is why these bikes are primarily only used by racers and not by the average Joe.

For racing bikes, the weight and stiffness of the overall design are paramount to its performance. A stiff frame allows pedaling efficiency to increase, and obviously, the lighter the bike, the less weight there is to move. However, this stiffness also tends to make them less comfortable to ride.

Racing bikes are also different in the type of wheels they require. The wheels are often designed to be as aerodynamic as possible; with a differently shaped cross-section than a typical bike wheel. They also tend to use fewer spokes as well.
