When it comes to the classics, nothing beats the cruiser bikes. Since Frank W. Schwinn first introduced the cruiser in the early 1930’s, these bikes have been a staple of the cycling world. Today, these bikes can be seen all over America; especially in urban areas.
Today, many cruiser bikes are built by cycling enthusiasts. For many years, it was difficult to find these bikes in a typical bike shop, and as such many fans of the cruiser were forced to build their own. This had the result of creating a “lifestyle”, much like those associated with a certain brand of car or truck.
The resurgence in popularity of cruiser bikes has had the result of their being more widely available through bike shops. While these bikes are mass-produced, many people use them as a starting point and then make their own unique modifications. Customization is the hallmark of the “cruiser lifestyle”.
